So cool, but gonna die - CES 2012
I was trying to explain to Tim Stevens, Editor in Cheif of Engadget, how I felt as CES approached. For month’s I’d heard seasoned Engadgteers go back and forth between “It’s the most aweomse week ever,” and “It’s hell incarnate, but with gadgets.” It’s the best worst week of your life. It’s horrible and awesome.
It’s the superbowl of tech journalism.
Sure, I’d managed E3 for three years running, GDC once or twice, and even a few days at TGS last fall — but CES? That was a three lettered acronym to fear. On the other hand, there’s little else exciting than riding the bleeding edge of new tech — and who better to ride the crimson wave with than Engadget? Seeing the crew in person is a rare treat, and meeting challenges with them is a wholly motivating and invigorating experience. How could I not be excited?
It’s like waiting in line at Disneyland’s Space Mountain for the first time, knowing you edged out the “must be this tall to ride” sign by mere millimeters. You’re shaking with nervous anticipation, but you can’t wait for the rush. The ride operator locks down your shoulder bars, and you’re stuck. Too late to change your mind now.
OMG. So cool, but gonna die.
Now that I’m here, I couldn’t be more excited. Let’s do this.
By the way, I work here now. →
Since April or May, I think.
In case I forgot to mention.
ACCESS DENIED.
So its come to this. Tumblr.
Sure, I didn’t update my self-hosted blog much, but it was mine. No, it hadn’t seen an update since I got engaged, started working at Engadget, or decided I was afraid of my bathroom scale — but it was mine.
Now its not. Here’s a hint: update wordpress installation, or its vulnerabilities will be hit so hard your hosting service will shut it down for suspect of phishing. Your carefully designed blog and all of its widgets will be reduced to two words: Access Denied.
So tumblr. Let’s try this. I can redirect my domain name. It’s not so bad.. ..right?
Oh hell.
This is the new livejouranl, isn’t it? That’s what i’ve gotten myself into. Crap, crap crap. I’m trendy.
Now what?
I have a real website, you know. →
I don’t know what this here tumblr is, but all the cool kids seem to be using it these days. Must be the new twitter. It looks like a blog, but it isn’t? Well, I have a real blog too. You could check it out if you want.
